How To Re-enable the IE - Internet Option - Default Home Address Field(Win2k)
  

Notice: The IE’s Default Home Page Address field has been disabled!
     Recently I received one article from my friend (It’s an article from www.my180.com). When I click on it, it automatically changed my IE’s Default Home Page to www.my180.com.Then, I thought is not a “big deal” and intended to go (Tools->Internet Options->Home Page - Address) to change it back to my favorite default Home Page - www.google.com. Oh no! It has disabled my Home Page - Address input field(shown in the picture above). Hence, I can’t change my Home Page address anymore. Yup! It’s one type of Spyware and it had changed our system’s registry.As a result, everytime when I launch the IE, It will bring me to this irritated site - www.my180.com. It waste me a lot of time to find out the solution through the internet. But I still can’t get the whole picture how to solve it. Finally, I found a solution for such problem! No Anti-Spyware need to be installed at all.
  

System Registry Editor Group Policy

 
The Solution:-
1) Go to Start->Run, and type in “regedit” if you encouter - “Registry Editing has Been disabled by your administrator! “
  1. Then you need to go to “C:\WINNT\system32\gpedit.msc” .
  2. Double click on it, then it will prompt out “Group Policy” Window.
  3. Go to User Configuration->Administrative Templates->System(Click on it).
  4. Then you will found one policy - “disable registry editing tools” in the right handside windows.
  5. Double click on it and choose -> disabled or not configured.
  6. After that you should be able to run the “regedit”.
2) After running “regedit”, It will prompt out a new window - “Registry Editor”.
  1. First thing to do, to re-enable the IE-Home Page Address input field.
    1. Go To HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Control Panel (double click on it).
    2. You may see a file called HomePage(Type: REG_DWORD) on right hand “Window”.(double click on it)
    3. Change it’s “value data” to 0(Hexadecimal).
    4. Now, you should be able to change your IE-Home Page Address. Yeah!!!
  2. Second thing to be noticed. Now, Is better for us to check -> HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Main (double click on it). You will now see there is a list of IE’s configuration Options in the right hand side window. In here, you can set most of your IE’s Setting. Like your Default Home Page. When I check the list from top to the bottom. I found there is still some settings with value - www.my180.com. Hence, I have changed all of it back to www.google.com. Here is some of the modifications i did:-
    1. Start Page : www.google.com (same with changing from Tools->Internet Options->Home Page).
    2. default_page_url : www.google.com
    3. Second Home Page : www.google.com
    4. Window Title : (empty) - previously have been modified by www.my180.com to “DECFGADECFGADECFG”.
     Finally, such problem should be solved! Yeah!! I Hope that this article could help those facing the same problem with me. And I hate www.my180.com!
